A model of the world

They were strict Christian Protestants. They were known as the Cavaliers.

Most Southern Platers belonged to the church of England. They were much more interested in the outside world - literature, music, art, politics, and the world of nature.

Southern Planters vaguely similar the Puritans, however they were less strict than the Puritans who acted strictly according to the Bible. There is one major difference between the Puritans and the Souther Planters--climate. Because the Puritans lived in New England, where the climate was harsh, especially in the winter, they thought God was testing them and they got strength in their harsh experiences. The Southern Planters, on the other hand, lived in the agriculturally plentiful South where the climate was more moderate. Because they weren't being "tested" by God via their climate, the Southern Planters believed they had more time and more reason to act as they wish.

Explanation
They saw the world as something to be conquered and enjoyed. They thought life should be lived to its fulfillment and therefore they did some "ungodly" things. Such as owning slaves. They rather buy slaves to do their work for them while the do what they want to do. They acted very sophistocated and enjoyed life to its fullest.

Futurology
"Where are we going to?" The textbook doesn't touch on this much, but knowing the vague Puritan background, you might assume that they, like the Puritans, believed in a Heaven and Hell.

Values
They were interested more in the outside world--literature, music, art, politics, and the world of nature. They valued examining their own souls.

Action
"How should we act?" - morality, application of values. Thought that life was to be enjoyed. A more liberal view of actions. Spent time playing games, listening to music, enjoying art, and overall enjoying the things of the world. Worked themselves, but had slaves do most of thier work. Were laid back and enjoyed doing what they want, when they wanted to do it.

Knowledge
"What is true and what is false?" - how do we know? There background and social views varied considerably from those of the Puritans.
